Are Amazon employees allowed to smoke marijuana during lunch break in Amazon’s parking lot? Victor Mann from Detroit Michigan does.
Amazon made the announcement in June 2021 that the company would exclude marijuana from their pre-employment drug screenings. Both alcohol and cannabis use will be treated the same according to the new advised policy Amazon currently has in place. Many employees were turned away due to positive drug use but due to the state law change across the United States, Amazon decided to ease up on their drug screening programs. As of 2023, Amazon’s drug and alcohol policy states the company has zero tolerance for any person who is at work under the influence of drugs or alcohol (whether within the company offices or while working remotely). Every person who undertakes any kind of work for the company, whether an employee or not is expected to be fit for work and be able to perform assigned duties safely and acceptably; i.e. be free of the influence of drugs or alcohol, will be registered as either sick annual leave or leave without pay, at the discretion of the manager. Employee Victor Ronald Mann, a warehouse worker in Detroit Michigan, smokes cannabis in Amazon’s parking lot freely and states that marijuana is legal and Amazon allows it. On January 14, 2023, Victor is captured livestreaming on YouTube during his lunchbreak smoking something through what looks like some sort of clear pipe. It’s not determined whether it’s marijuana or possibly crack cocaine.
In the next video, Victor is once again livestreaming from the parking lot of Amazon a little under a month later (February 3, 2023). He boldly stated he’s on lunch break and bragged how good the “tree” (Marijuana) was he was inhaling. The same clear pipe is being used that’s in the previous video.
Mann states that when not on the clock in the parking lot, he’s at liberty to smoke marijuana. He states that he’s not clocked in during his lunchbreak so he’s not on company’s time. He then goes on to say that the company’s parking lot isn’t technically the company’s property only the inside is.
We are hoping that a representative from Amazon’s executive team can make light to this matter. Is the Amazon warehouse in the Detroit area licensed as a marijuana retailer or considered a licensed marijuana safety compliance facility? Is the Amazon warehouse in the Detroit area where Victor Mann works considered a licensed designated consumption establishment? We would love to update other media outlets if Amazon has changed their strict policies.
